Ask what the minimum actually applies to
Minimum order quantity is a project term, not a universal number for custom goalkeeper gloves. A minimum may apply to the whole order, one construction, one color, one material or a specific size. An attractive total means little until you know how the order can be divided.
KeeperSource is a China-based factory with a minimum order of 10 pairs. Samples take about 15 days, and bulk production takes about 30 days after approval. Your quotation confirms the size and color allocation, customization, packing and delivery arrangements. Plan freight transit separately from production.
Define the customization before asking for price
Separate a logo application on an existing construction from changes to palm material, colors, wrist closure or the pattern itself. These requests involve different approval questions. Describe the outcome you need and ask which changes affect the minimum, sample work and schedule.
Build a size-and-color matrix before quoting. If your forecast calls for a small number of several sizes, ask whether that mix is feasible. Confirm how left/right pairs, spare units, packaging and any quantity tolerance are counted. Do not add slow-moving variants solely to reach a proposed minimum without considering the inventory you will have to sell.
Budget the whole project
Use a worksheet with separate lines rather than asking for one unexplained 'all-in' figure. Leave unconfirmed costs blank until a responsible party supplies them. The categories below are planning prompts, not a statement that every charge applies.
| Budget line | Question to confirm |
|---|---|
| Development and setup | What artwork, pattern or tooling work is included? |
| Samples and revisions | How many stages and pairs are quoted? Are credits conditional? |
| Bulk goods | Which specification, size mix and packaging does the unit quote cover? |
| Inspection and testing | Who arranges it, pays for it and receives the records? |
| Freight and insurance | Which route, service, named place and responsibility apply? |
| Import and local handling | Which charges need confirmation for your destination? |
| Contingency | What reserve covers another revision or a changed shipping plan? |
Give each sample a decision to resolve
An initial reference sample may answer construction and fit questions. A branded development sample can address artwork, placement and colors. A pre-production sample should be explicitly defined: ask whether it represents the intended bulk materials and processes. The names alone do not establish what has been approved.
Record each revision, the issue it resolves and the remaining gaps. Do not treat payment for one sample as approval for production. Before a bulk commitment, agree the reference sample, specification version, quantity breakdown and the process for deviations. Confirm the commercial terms for cancellation or rework rather than assuming a sample fee creates particular rights.
Compare quotes on the same delivery basis
The International Trade Administration explains that Incoterms allocate defined buyer and seller responsibilities, while matters such as payment terms still need their own agreement. Record the named place and rule version in a quotation. Ask a freight provider or customs professional to confirm destination-specific costs when needed.
For branded samples, supply artwork you are entitled to use and state the approved scope. WIPO's trademark guidance explains why branding rights deserve their own attention. The practical purchasing task is to keep artwork authorization, technical approval and commercial acceptance clearly documented.
- Send destination country and postal code with the quote request.
- Request a minimum by model, color and size, plus the total minimum.
- Ask when any quoted schedule starts and which approvals it depends on.
- Confirm quote validity, payment milestones and sample-credit conditions.
- Request written confirmation of every assumption that changes your budget.
