Make the brief measurable
A tech pack is the shared description of the product you intend to approve and order. For custom goalkeeper gloves, it should connect construction drawings, materials, sizing, artwork and packaging to one revision. Its purpose is to remove questions that photographs and phrases such as 'premium quality' leave unanswered.
Start with a document owner, style code, revision date and change log. Distinguish requirements from preferences and open questions. A short, well-controlled pack is more useful than a large folder of screenshots that disagree with each other.
Draw the glove from the views that matter
Include palm, backhand, thumb-side and wrist views. Mark the seam arrangement and latex wrapping for each finger. Official glove technology pages show why a cut name alone does not fully describe the construction. Use original drawings for your own brief rather than treating another brand's proprietary design as an available pattern.
Number important components and connect them to a material list. Explain the intended wrist opening and closure direction. If finger protection is requested, specify its location, whether it is removable and how its presence will be checked; do not infer protective certification or injury prevention from appearance.
Build the core specification table
The following fields create a starting template. Ask the development partner to identify anything that cannot be confirmed, and do not silently convert an unanswered field into an approved requirement.
| Area | Information to include |
|---|---|
| Palm | Material code, layer description, color, finish and wrap locations |
| Cut and body | Seam map, body fabric, gussets, lining and panel references |
| Backhand | Material, decoration, panel construction and flex requirements |
| Wrist | Opening, cuff material, strap length, closure and pull tab |
| Sizing | Size range, measurement points, method and tolerances |
| Artwork | File version, placement, dimensions, colors and application method |
| Packaging | Pairing, labels, bag or box, care information and carton plan |
| Approval | Reference sample ID, accepted deviations and sign-off owner |
Agree how measurements will be taken
Show measurement points on a diagram and state whether the glove is flat, stretched or worn. Useful candidates include overall length, palm width, selected finger lengths, cuff opening and strap length. Select points that can be checked consistently on the agreed construction.
Define units and acceptable tolerances with the development partner. Measure the approved sample using that method, then check neighboring sizes rather than assuming the same adjustment works everywhere. Label a wearer-facing size guide separately from the production measurement sheet; one helps a player choose, while the other supports product consistency.
Control artwork and packaging as carefully as the glove
Supply editable artwork where possible, plus a reference preview showing orientation. State logo dimensions and distances from identifiable panel edges. Screen colors are useful for discussion but should not replace an agreed physical color reference when a close match matters.
Keep the rights to brand assets clear. WIPO explains that trademarks identify an enterprise's goods or services and have their own protection framework. Include only artwork you are authorized to use. Before packaging approval, verify claims about origin, materials, testing and care rather than copying language from a competing product.
Close the loop before bulk production
Return every sample comment to the pack. Identify the sample, location, required change and result after revision. A message saying 'approved except the cuff' leaves uncertainty unless the cuff change is specified and the approval boundary is clear.
Keep a signed or otherwise traceable approval record, the final pack and a reference pair. Agree which checks will be performed on production goods and how a proposed substitution is handled. Any testing, compliance documents or inspection services must be confirmed for the particular product and destination; the checklist itself is not certification.
- All files show the same style code and current revision.
- No material or artwork field remains marked 'to confirm'.
- The approved sample matches the pack or has listed deviations.
- The size/color order matrix matches the quotation.
- One named person can authorize future changes.
